​​Our Student Led Initiative:
Project RISHI (Rural India Social and Health Improvement) UCI is a 100% non-profit, student-run organization that is dedicated to advancing public health in rural India. Founded in 2005 at UCLA, Project RISHI has now expanded to five other chapters across the United States.
Our vision for Project RISHI UCI is to develop and transform rural Indian societies into sustainable and strong communities by implementing annual projects and taking a group of students on annual trips to the village. We will achieve this long-term goal by addressing known public health issues, establishing a medical clinic, conducting research on prominent health problems, and educating the villagers on common health topics such as hygiene. Our annual projects will be focused on providing sustainable solutions for health care, basic infrastructural, social, and/or educational needs.
Our Location of Interest:
HASNAPUR
Hasnapur, with a population of 1000 people, needs improvement in various aspects including education, infrastructure of public buildings, water tanks, food, etc. All the inhabitants are farmers who have a daily income of 250 rupees for a man and 150 rupees for a woman ($1 is about 45 rupees).

- Volunteering at medical outreach clinics
- CPR/First Aid course to get a certification
- Creating an economic & health survey for the residents

- Gaining sponsors & donors to support our targeted projects
- (Bi)Weekly fundraisers on & off-campus to keep everyone engaged
- Presentations by health professions for basic medical training
- Socials to familiarize ourselves with each other
